Binova has always been big on the idea of the extended kitchen. Designer Andrea D’Antonio and architect Annarita Iampieri of the Binova Research and Development Office told us how the company develops this concept into its
furnishing programmes.
As Andrea D’Antonio explains, «the idea of a kitchen integrated with the living room is one of the cornerstones of our design. «The evolution of interior design has led to the fusion of the two areas, creating a single, multifunctional space; Binova fully embraces this trend, creating collections that not only unite the kitchen and living room, but also blend in with the overall architectural».
«Thanks to this ‘fluid transition’ - continues Andrea D’Antonio - the islands also become meeting points, while fine materials such as natural stone and stoneware guarantee a stylistic consistency that extends beyond into
the rest of the home. In this way the kitchen forms part of a harmonious,
multifunctional continuum».
So, to get to the heart of Binova’s latest ideas, it can help to look in more detail at how these concepts are expressed. «The new solutions emphasise a
sense of visual and material continuity between kitchen and living-room, starting with the integrated through doors between the tall units and the
combined lighting systems» explains architect Annarita Iampieri.
Moreover, the architect adds that «creating fluidity between the spaces has always been a leitmotif of Binova’s approach to design. Typical living-room elements such as panelling, display cabinets, wine stores, and the new pivot door play a fundamental role by combining functionality and aesthetics, also visually connecting the two areas for a “natural” transition.
Noteworthy in this sense is Icaro, an island module with open compartments and an adjoining cantilevered table, which connects to a stoneware island, taking the kitchen into the dining and living areas. Other features that underscore Binova’s fluid home concept are the invisible Hidden Kitchen, concealed as the name suggests inside the cabinet with pocket doors, and the Bagni collection, which has the same finishes as those used in the kitchen and living room».
Another model that expresses Binova’s spatial vision is Avola, in its various new versions. «When it came to the Avola kitchen we wanted to focus on an even closer connection between the two spaces, enhancing and reinforcing the
idea of a fluid home» says D’Antonio, finally.
«Distinctive elements include the new, exquisitely minimal Petra display
cabinets with glass sides and mirrored backs, and the up-down storage unit behind the cooking area, as well as a cantilevered table incorporated into the stone washing island. In this way the space created bestows order without compromising on style».
